We had a busy day around here today!  There’s the news in the States, an election here in Canada, our 13th wedding anniversary, and, here is Kenan with some more breaking news:

Shana’s first softball game of the season!

I honestly took this picture today, April 2nd, 2011, this afternoon.  We woke up to about 2 or 3 inches already on the ground, and by dinnertime it’s up to over 8 inches that we measured with our little plastic rulers at home!   That’s over 20 centimeters, if you think that is more impressive.  Thick heavy flakes, lots of fun to play in!  As for me, I took this picture from inside.

Daddy made a snowboy!

Wow!  Shana and Kenan were asked today to be a part of Stephen Harper’s inauguration (if he gets re-elected of course)!  They will be part of a children’s choir formed of children from Harper’s home riding, and will be singing Harper’s praises when results are in on May 3rd.  We haven’t heard yet what they sing if he loses the election.

Kenan says “I love this because I love to sing!”

Shana says “I think my experience in my school choir will help me to sing really well.”

In the event you`d like to have your own Beach Day, here is the recipe for the Tropical Smoothie we made:  All quantities are of course variable to suit your taste and the amount you want to make.   We were all licking the bottom of the glasses and wishing for more!

Pineapple, fresh or canned, about 1-2 cups

Mango, frozen pieces, about 1-2 cups

Banana, 1/2 to 1 whole

Coconut milk, with the cream and everything mixed in.

Blend all ingredients together until smooth and creamy.  Top with shredded coconut and a paper umbrella toothpick.  Enjoy!

The tag on this dress / cover up actually says “Made in Hawaii”

Aloha!

Trouble Number One:

It’s 9:15 pm.  We’ve been playing calm, sleepy bedtime music for a full hour.  We both thought the kids were asleep.

Kenan pipes up.

Hey guys, I have some pretty amazing news here.

I can count to Ten Billion and Eleven …     by TWOS!

Trouble Number Two:

Last weekend Nate took the kids to a real movie theater to see Tangled, the latest kids offering from Disney.  This is about the 3rd time they’ve been to a movie theater in their memory.  There was nothing in that movie that we thought could possibly be inappropriate for them to see without us previewing and over-analyzing it first.

As they are walking down the hallway towards their theater, there is a huge sign, larger than life-size, advertising another movie with a scantily-clad couple getting  into bed together.

Shana pipes up.

Daddy, what’s that?

Daddy mumbled under his breath,

That’s the reason we don’t usually go to the movies!

Last night we reached a critical milestone in any family’s development:  we introduced the kids to Boggle.  And they loved it!

Kenan and Shana were both finding words at their level–Kenan could do one- and two-letter words and the odd three-letter word, and Shana could start at two-letter words but even found some four-letter words as well.

What words can you find in this partial board?

Have you ever been wished Merry Christmas by Hershey?  Now that’s a treat!  Today I picked up a whole box of Twizzlers, Nibs and Other Goodies sent to us by Hershey’s PR team that liked the name of our blog.  Thanks guys!  🙂
