I go to a lot of extra trouble when shoveling the driveway to put as much of the snow as I can on this pile. But it’s all worth the effort when the kids have fun playing on it and digging tunnels through it!

…Hell froze over?
Let’s go outside and take a look.
Guess I left the screen open and some outside came in!
Blowing drifting snow, visibility on the roads is almost nil.
This is a lot of snow for Calgary, by the way! We don’t usually get buried like this.
Care to come and sit a while? We have dry seats inside too! And the hot chocolate will be flowing freely!
Nate says if we are lucky the power will go out.

The beach was actually only one day squeezed into a busy week. Our real reason for going to Florida was for a nephew (once removed)’s bar mitzvah. Mazel tov, Zach!
Shana and Kenan were good sports through the long services Friday evening and Saturday morning, but they really loved dressing up for the fancy dinner Saturday night at a newly renovated historical house.
We spent lots of time with family–Helen’s cousins and aunts and uncles–but also enjoyed sharing our rented bungalow with her sister Susan, Joseph…
…and their son Ishi.
Sometimes we’d all just zone out watching TV…
… or reading our books …
Of course we saved time for ice cream!
And did I mention we spent a day at the beach?
Before we knew it, it was time to pack everything back up and go home.

Just in time for their Remembrance Day celebrations*, I (virtually) rolled into Thunder Bay last night, 3000 km from January 1st.
(* I can’t tell what Thunder Bay is doing for Remembrance Day. The city web site says nothing about it on their home page, and searching their site only shows that veterans can ride transit for free today and the waste collection schedule has changed.)

We woke this morning to huge soft wet flakes coming down. Had no choice but to go out in it before breakfast. And after breakfast… well, our stuff wasn’t too wet so we went out again.
